User Experience

By putting ourselves in our users’ shoes at the outset of a web design project, we prioritise the features that are most helpful to users on their user journey.

Equally as important, we can avoid unnecessary features that may distract our users from completing their journey.

There’s no substitute for hard work when it comes to optimising a website for usability.

Co-browsing with users qualitatively, and quantitatively videoing user interaction with prototypes of client web sites is the best way to smooth bumps in the road before the big launch day!

Information architecture.

Structuring the information in your website is key to making it both useable and effective.

At the heart of the plan, we look to understand the target audience, and what they are looking to achieve from the website. This informs the content we prioritise in the communication hierarchy as well as the basic navigation structure of the site itself.

These are all key elements to the site, so it’s important to test our thinking before building too much of the code base. To this end, we’ll always create a set of interactive wireframes to test our thinking around the IA. Depending on the project we’ll also discuss prototyping core functionality to aid the learning process.

Web Development.

Your website is a big deal; it’s probably the most influential marketing platform you have at your disposal. So, it’s important that you get all the major decisions right when it comes to its development;

  • What is the primary commercial purpose of your site?
  • What technology platform should you use?
  • What should the user experience look and feel like for visitors?
  • What performance targets are you setting?

At Fireworx, we support .NET development projects across platforms such as Umbraco, Kentico and Sitecore, as well as WordPress (PHP) builds, so can help with the majority of web development projects.

Designing for web.

A distinctive brand identity is an essential complement to a differentiated value proposition. If a brand doesn’t mean anything to customers or prospects, it’s not a brand. Just a sticker.

It’s often a challenge to take beautiful graphic design work and turn it into crafted, functional and useable web design, without losing the creative essence.

Fireworx grew from design agency roots, so we’re experts in balancing visual design with the demands of information architecture and usability.  If you’re interested, read how Health-On-Line challenged Fireworx to reinvigorate their web design.

Keep in mind that you are designing to engage your target users. Focus solely on them.

As a rule of thumb, simplicity sells when it comes to web design.

Device is key; ensure your creative approach works across Mobile, Tablet and Desktop.

Test your creative before launch; ask your customers how your proposed design work makes them feel.

WordPress web development.

WordPress is web software used to create a highly functional website or blog. WordPress started as a blogging system, but has evolved to be used as a full website content management system (CMS) through the easily available plugins and themes.

One major advantage of using WordPress is that it can be an exceptionally cost-effective platform, as the CMS and themes are pre-built and easily applied. On the downside, it is not the simplest platform for creating bespoke functionality, which is where a more sophisticated .NET solution might come be more appropriate.

Umbraco web development.

Umbraco is an open-source CMS, and free to licence, unlike some other CMS platforms that come with subscription fees. Umbraco also offers an intuitive and easy to navigate back-end for marketers and content managers without developer support.

Built on the Microsoft .NET platform and fully compatible with the latest .NET technologies such as MVC and Razor, the Umbraco CMS is highly scalable and allows integration with many leading third-party systems to manage your MarComms workflow and expand the platform to fit your changing requirements.

Like WordPress, Umbraco comes with a number of starter packs and packages, developed by the community, that help speed up the development process. The CMS is also super navigable which means that it’s easy for non-technical members of staff to maintain their websites without developer support.

.NET development.

The Microsoft .NET Framework is a free, cross-platform, developer platform for building many different types of applications. With the .NET framework, you can use multiple languages, editors, and libraries to build for web, mobile, desktop, gaming, and the internet of things (IoT).

At Fireworx we offer a .NET solution to your web needs by supporting a number of different .NET compatible CMSs, allowing us to provide the right solution for our client’s objective.

We build all our solutions on a CMS platform giving you, the client, full control over its marketing presence and purpose.
